Nepalese Community Radio BGWS


Radio BGWS is a community radio service (frequency is on 1179AM) for the ex-Gurkhas, their families and other Nepalese people in the Rushmoor area including Farnborough, Aldershot, Camberley and Fleet. The service is broadcast mostly in Nepali and will provide information, advice and entertainment. Radio BGWS is mostly run by volunteers and provides on-going training and support so that local people can get involved in producing and presenting their own programmes. Amongst their programmes, the Naya Yuva (Nepalese Youth Group) records a weekly programme on Wednesdays and is aired every Sunday.

About British Gurkha Welfare Society

Welfare organisation run by Gurkhas for Gurkhas to cater for the needs of the many ex-servicemen and their families returning to the UK. Based in Farnborough, the British Gurkha Welfare Society (BGWS) provides a range of welfare and immigration services to Gurkhas and Nepali citizens, also maintaining close contact with local authorities across the country with sizeable Gurkha populations. The remit of the Society is to seek equality of treatment for Gurkhas.
