About
Strategic Health and Wellbeing (SHAWS) has been set up to promote healthy eating choices and good nutrition, to enhance quality of life for individuals who are considered inactive and ‘hard to reach’ by providing social and cultural activities, to reduce isolation and loneliness among the elderly and women, to combat sedentary lifestyles through physical activities and/or healthy eating, and to provide opportunities and support for individuals from BAME communities to integrate into the wider community.
Regular activities/events include:
-Supporting local refugees by facilitating free physical activities and health and wellbeing events.
-Saheli (friendship) Wellbeing group: free or subsidised general fitness classes for ladies from ethnic minority groups. Free informal health events with advice from professionals. For more information or to sign up, please contact via email.
-Community keep fit project: Free or subsidised Strength and Balance classes for anyone with long term health conditions. Local weekly health walks at London Road Recreation grounds on Thursdays at 1pm-3pm.
